Conditions We Commonly Evaluate

Upper cervical problems can present differently from one person to another. Some patients come to us primarily because of neck pain, while others are dealing with headaches, dizziness, balance problems, or symptoms that began after an injury.

At Precision Chiropractic, we do not assume that every symptom is caused by the upper cervical spine. Our goal is to determine whether dysfunction in the upper cervical region may be contributing to what a patient is experiencing and whether upper cervical care is appropriate.

Because the upper cervical spine influences head position, spinal mechanics, and sensory information used by the nervous system, problems in this region may sometimes be associated with symptoms beyond localized neck discomfort.

Dizziness, Vertigo & Balance Problems

The upper cervical spine contains a high concentration of sensory receptors that help the nervous system understand head position and movement. This information works together with the visual and vestibular systems to help maintain balance and orientation.

For some patients, abnormal sensory input or mechanical dysfunction from the neck may contribute to dizziness, imbalance, or a sense of disorientation.

Migraines & Headaches

Headaches and migraines can have many different causes. In some patients, dysfunction involving the upper cervical spine, surrounding muscles, joints, or sensory pathways may be relevant.

Our examination looks for findings that may suggest the upper cervical region is contributing to the patient’s headache pattern rather than assuming every headache is spinal in origin.

Neck Pain & Whiplash

Neck pain is one of the most common reasons people seek chiropractic care.

In patients with previous whiplash, falls, sports injuries, or other trauma, the upper cervical region can be particularly important because of the amount of movement and the complex anatomy at the craniocervical junction.

Our goal is to understand whether an underlying mechanical problem is contributing to persistent pain, stiffness, limited motion, or compensation elsewhere in the spine.

Postural & Spinal Compensation

The head sits at the top of the spinal column. Changes in head and upper-neck mechanics can influence muscular activity, posture, loading, and movement throughout the rest of the spine.

Some patients therefore present with discomfort or functional problems in areas such as the shoulders, mid-back, or lower back even though our examination identifies an important contributing problem higher in the spinal system.

This does not mean every lower-spine complaint originates in the neck. It means we evaluate the spine as an interconnected system rather than treating every region completely in isolation.

Dysautonomia & Autonomic Symptoms

The autonomic nervous system helps regulate functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, temperature regulation, and other automatic processes.

Some patients with autonomic symptoms also have a history of head or neck injury, dizziness, headaches, or other upper-cervical findings.

We do not claim that upper cervical chiropractic treats autonomic disorders themselves. Instead, we evaluate whether upper cervical dysfunction may represent one potentially relevant factor within a much larger clinical picture.

Symptoms Following Head or Neck Injury

Falls, motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, concussions, and other trauma can affect the relationship between the head, neck, and rest of the spine.

Some patients develop symptoms immediately, while others notice increasing problems over time.

In these cases, we pay particular attention to the history of injury, upper cervical mechanics, neurological findings, posture, and imaging when appropriate.

Who Should Be Evaluated Elsewhere First?

Upper cervical chiropractic is not appropriate as the first or only evaluation for every symptom.

New or severe neurological symptoms, sudden severe headache, fainting, new weakness or numbness, difficulty speaking, chest pain, unexplained loss of consciousness, or rapidly worsening symptoms require appropriate medical evaluation.

When another healthcare professional or specialist is more appropriate, we believe patients should receive that care.

The Goal Is to Identify What Is Relevant

At Precision Chiropractic, our goal is not to attach every symptom to the upper cervical spine.

We are trying to answer three questions:

Is there an identifiable upper cervical or spinal problem?

Could that problem reasonably be contributing to what this patient is experiencing?

Does that problem improve objectively as care progresses?

That is why our approach emphasizes detailed history, examination, imaging when appropriate, precise correction, and reassessment rather than symptom relief alone.

Is Upper Cervical Care Appropriate for You?

If you are dealing with persistent symptoms and wondering whether the upper cervical spine may be part of the problem, the first step is a consultation.

We’ll listen to what you have been experiencing, explain our approach, and determine whether further evaluation makes sense.

I started seeing Dr. Lin almost two years ago and the difference he has made with my headaches is truly remarkable. I had migraines often when I first started seeing him, and although my headaches haven’t fully subsided that’s partially due the physical position I’m in while doing my work; however, I find going once a week is incredibly helpful and makes it manageable. I can feel when I need an adjustment right away, and I immediately feel better every time. My quality of life has changed and it’s nice to have someone I fully trust that helps keep my head on straight so I can give care to my patients too! I’m grateful to the entire staff for always being so kind, welcoming, and working with my schedule! Thank you 🙏

If you are struggling with cervical, back or shoulders issues I highly recommend Dr. Lin. I am very thankful to have found him. What really sets DrLin apart is his approach to chiropractic care. Rather than the traditional “cracking” or adjustments, he uses a specialized tool, a more scientific targeted approach. I have received tremendous improvement in my back pain. His staff is equally impressive. They are professional, kind and welcoming. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Lin and his team to any one looking for knowledgeable and compassionate chiropractic care. If you’re pregnant, go see Dr. Lin! He is Webster certified and helped keep my body aligned throughout pregnancy so my baby could stay in an optimal position. A few times she shifted, and after an adjustment she’d be head down again within hours. I even went into labor about two hours after my last adjustment! Dr. Lin is so calm and gentle, and his entire team is wonderful. It honestly felt like visiting friends every week.
