David’s Story

March 29, 2023 By Dr. Kevin Lin

“When I first got here I was in alot of pain, everything hurt. One side was just tight and I couldn’t move my head right. It was affecting everything, I was miserable. I couldn’t sleep right, I was constantly moving trying to get comfortable.

I notice definite improvement after the first visit. Oh man I could move again without being miserable! It was worth the wait!”

Kim’s Story #PatientsofPrecision

October 24, 2022 By Dr. Kevin Lin

I had pain every day. If I stood too long it would get painful, if I sat down for too long it would get too painful, If I walked too long it would get painful. I would get headaches pretty frequently. I guess I thought headaches were normal and It happened to people. I’ve been to conventional chiropractors, my husband has bought all kinds of pillows, massage guns, roller balls to try to help. We tried so many things. The neck pain and headaches have been going on for 6-7 years. My low back has been bothering me since middle school.

Now I can do a lot of things. I did a nature walk with my son for an entire hour. I didn’t have to stretch. I didn’t have to take any medications. I used to take ibuprofen every single day. I only have headaches when I need an adjustment.

The thing that surprised me the most was how simple and effective the care is. The process is easy and smooth.

Anna’s Story

May 16, 2022 By Dr. Kevin Lin

” I used to have headaches every single day. When I played tennis or did any type of physical activity I would get dizziness. It was hard for me to pay attention in class. And I was always fatigued. My stomach always bothered me.

After starting care, I was surprised by how quickly I felt better. My daily headaches quickly became a weekly headache. And even now they are happening less frequently. I’m on the local high School tennis team and I feel better than ever. All of my symptoms have improved!”

Patricia’s Story #patientsofprecision

October 24, 2019 By Dr. Kevin Lin

When I first came in I had pain from my neck through my shoulder and down my left arm, and Ive been living with that for years. Every day. It was so bad I wanted to hit my arm against the wall hoping to see if anything would change, I would’ve been okay if someone amputated my arm.

I wasn’t able to work. I couldn’t enjoy the beach. It was effecting every part of my life. I couldn’t sleep and I would cry often.

I was skeptical. Snake Oil salesman. Chiropractic.

And then after coming here for about the fourth visit, the pain was gone. I felt better than I have in years. I am back to doing the things that I loved.

3 Eazzzy Steps For A Better Night’s Sleep

December 5, 2016 By Dr. Kevin Lin

Why Sleep Matters

Although it may seem intuitive why sleep matters there isn’t a consensus among scientist of exactly why. There are a few convincing theories with solid research including the Restorative theory. The restorative theory states that during sleep your body restores what is lost during the time when it is awake and active. Findings show that animals that are completely deprived of sleep lose all immune function and die soon after. Studies done with humans show that major restorative functions such as muscle growth, tissue repair, growth hormone secretion are only done while asleep. As we have explored previously, the Glympathic System, the Brain’s waste disposal is most active while we are sleep. The bottom line is sleep is essential to our well being.

3 Steps to take now for better sleep

  1. Get rid of any light in your bedroom

Too much light disrupts your circadian rhythms and your ability to fall asleep. A study to be presented at a conference for the American Association of Neurology looks at this very problem. After surveying almost 16,000 people about their sleep, they took satellite images of light in the areas these people lived and compared it to how each person rated their sleep. They found that people living in cities were exposed to light at night that was three to six times brighter than what people in rural areas experienced.

Compared to people in rural areas, people exposed to bright light at night slept less, felt tired more often during the day, and reported being dissatisfied with their sleep at night. They were also more likely to report waking up confused at night.

Remember that before the advent of electricity we lived in complete darkness. Light( or the lack of) was the cue for our bodies to determine when it was time for bed and when it was time to wake up.

      2.   Get rid of any noise in your bedroom

Light is not the only thing that can disrupt your sleep. Random and distracting noises can be as detrimental as bright lights.  Two simple ways to combat this are 1) Get a white noise generator. 2) Get some ear plugs. Make sure you create the perfect environment for restful sleep!

      3.   Invest in a new mattress

Mattresses are the long forgotten piece of furniture in our homes. Although we use our mattress every night, when was the last time you examined your mattress? Is it uneven and lumpy? Does it cave to the center? Are the springs still supporting your weight? When was the last time you cleaned your mattress?!

Here are the two recommendations that I have for mattresses.

The first is the Classic Silhouette 8 that can be found here —-> http://a.co/cukj2oi . It is a foam mattress so its important to have a very sturdy base.

My second recommendation is the Simmions Black Line Alexia which you can find here ——> http://a.co/hKJwASF

Conclusion

Don’t take sleep for granted! In our modern age we are experiencing more stress on a day to day basis then any other time in history which makes sleep even more important then ever. Take the time to create the perfect environment for your restoration and well being!

GRATITUDE: The Science and Benefits of Being Thankful

November 23, 2016 By Dr. Kevin Lin

gratitude

With Thanksgiving just a day away, gratitude and thankfulness are at the forefront of everyone’s mind.  During this season, we are often moved to give when we normally wouldn’t, help when we’d usually stand back, or find new depths of generosity in some arena of your life.
Is it lovely to count your blessings on Thanksgiving?  Absolutely.
Can it be life-changing to be thankful day in and day out?  Without a doubt!
Gratitude can be one of the most overlooked and underutilized tools that we have available to us every moment of every day.  It doesn’t require much time and doesn’t cost a penny, but the benefits reaped can be tremendous.  There are advances being made each day concerning the neuroscience of why gratitude “works”, and entire university programs dedicated to advancing the understanding of positive psychology.  Gratitude actually affects your brain at the biological level.  It does this using two important chemicals in our bodies – serotonin and dopamine.  Boosting these two neurotransmitters are the focus of many anti-depressant medications, but they can also be stimulated naturally simply by feeling and expressing gratitude.  Some research even shows that remembering to be grateful actually changed the density of neurons in certain areas of the brain, and because of that, it takes less effort to be grateful over time.
Don’t just take it from me, here are a few benefits of cultivating gratitude that have their roots in science and research:
·         Grateful people sleep better.
·         Gratitude bolsters self-esteem.
·         Grateful people enjoy better health, both physical and mental.
·         Gratitude increases feelings of joy, optimism, and happiness.
·         Grateful people feel less lonely and isolated.
If you’d like to start practicing gratitude as part of your daily routine, here are a few simple ideas that pack a powerful punch:
 ·         Keep a daily journal of things that you’re thankful for.  The best times of day to incorporate this practice is right when you wake up in the morning, or just before you go to bed.
·         Once a day, make a habit out of telling your spouse, a friend, or a coworker something you appreciate about them.
·         Write a thank-you note and drop it in the mail once a week.
Focusing on the good rather than what’s bad builds an enduring mindset of positivity that can be drawn upon long after performing any of these actions.  Being thankful feels good, it’s good for you, and it’s a blessing to the people in your life.  The only thing we’ve got to lose is a crummy attitude and a negative outlook, and that would be okay with me!

Kids & Sports: A look at Brain Changes

November 16, 2016 By Dr. Kevin Lin

footballkids

The NFL might get all the limelight when it comes to concussions and neck injuries, but it’s kids out on the sports field that should be getting more attention.  There are fewer than 2000 NFL players, and for every one of those, there are about 2000 kids playing youth football across the country.

You may have read in the news (here or here) about how players 8-13 years of age showed changes on MRI that were associated with a traumatic brain injury (TBI).  What makes this surprising is that none of the players showed any signs or symptoms of a concussion.

Neurons are delicate, and damage to them can accumulate over time even with injuries that aren’t severe enough to reach the level of a concussion.  The players in the study, who wore special helmets that were able to track impacts, showed changes in the white matter of their brains.  This is especially concerning since the white matter, which helps different parts of the brain communicate with each other, is still developing during this age.  Any changes in this normal development may have lifelong effects on other aspects of brain function, including behavior, cognitive function, and personality.

Protecting Our Kids

Despite what it may seem, this research was not a cry to put an end to football for children.  Rather, furthering our understanding of the types of changes that are taking place will only help to improve the safety of the game going forward.

Naturally, kids’ necks are not as strong as adults’ are, which puts kids at greater risk of injury.  The NFL has taken some steps in the right direction concerning concussion protocols, and doing simple things like knowing how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion right away can lead to better outcomes for kids.  It’s also important to not be tempted by the “walk it off” attitude, and to take the time to discern if there might be more subtle signs to look for.

Working with young athletes in our practice, we take the same mindful approach as we do with adults.  Our goal is always to identify primary areas of Structural Abnormality within the spine and reintroduce strength and stability over time.  The number one reason for a Structural Shift in the spine is injury.  Kids are naturally resilient and do very well with NeuroStructural Chiropractic.  It’s not just about getting them back out on the field doing what they love, it’s about ensuring healthy brain function and development that will last a lifetime.

Which Health Model Works For YOU?

November 8, 2016 By Dr. Kevin Lin

models

“All models are wrong, but some are useful.” -George Box, British Mathematician

That’s how I see NeuroStructural Chiropractic. It isn’t the be-all and end-all of your healthcare needs. There are plenty of conditions that fall beyond what NeuroStructural Chiropractic is capable of taking care of but…. it’s still very useful.

What exactly is it useful for? At Precision Chiropractic, we don’t make claims of miracle cures. Do not come to us if you have an open wound that need stitches or if you need a broken bone that needs to be set.

Our belief is one that architects, engineers, designers, and mechanics all agree on:

Structure affects Function.

An abnormal Structural Shift within the spine not only causes secondary postural changes throughout the body but it also causes neurological deficits.

How do these neurological deficits show up in daily life?

Headaches

Migraines

Chronic Fatigue

Restlessness

Diarrhea/Constipation

Muscle weakness

Numbness and Tingling

If you have tried other models of healthcare, including chiropractic, and haven’t found the results that you want, then it is time to visit our office for a complimentary consultation. We will get to know you better and you will have a chance to know us better. You’ll learn about the different diagnostic tools that our models uses to identify the Structural Abnormality in your spine and how we can correct it.

Come and experience the Precision Chiropractic Difference.

I started seeing Dr. Lin almost two years ago and the difference he has made with my headaches is truly remarkable. I had migraines often when I first started seeing him, and although my headaches haven’t fully subsided that’s partially due the physical position I’m in while doing my work; however, I find going once a week is incredibly helpful and makes it manageable. I can feel when I need an adjustment right away, and I immediately feel better every time. My quality of life has changed and it’s nice to have someone I fully trust that helps keep my head on straight so I can give care to my patients too! I’m grateful to the entire staff for always being so kind, welcoming, and working with my schedule! Thank you 🙏

If you are struggling with cervical, back or shoulders issues I highly recommend Dr. Lin. I am very thankful to have found him. What really sets DrLin apart is his approach to chiropractic care. Rather than the traditional “cracking” or adjustments, he uses a specialized tool, a more scientific targeted approach. I have received tremendous improvement in my back pain. His staff is equally impressive. They are professional, kind and welcoming. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Lin and his team to any one looking for knowledgeable and compassionate chiropractic care. If you’re pregnant, go see Dr. Lin! He is Webster certified and helped keep my body aligned throughout pregnancy so my baby could stay in an optimal position. A few times she shifted, and after an adjustment she’d be head down again within hours. I even went into labor about two hours after my last adjustment! Dr. Lin is so calm and gentle, and his entire team is wonderful. It honestly felt like visiting friends every week.
